Two thousand Internally Displaced Women have been trained on rice parboiling techniques in Bade local government area of Yobe state.
The training was conducted, at the weekend, by a Non Governmental Organisation, (NGO) Search for Common Ground in partnership with the UN Women and Government of Japan.

State Project Coordinator, Search for Common Ground, Mr Tobi. Salawu, said the three day training workshop that was aimed to boost the income and economic power of women affected by conflict in Yobe and Borno states.
“The empowerment component will reach 2,000 women in these two states by providing a means of livelihood to the women and granting them access to services and justice through formal and informal judicial systems”.

He said the project would also support the women through different components including protection, empowerment and access to justice.
He explained that the choice of Gashua as the project implementation area, was owing to the fact that majority of the people were into rice production and there was an influx of IDPs.
“This project will be supporting women and also providing support to their families and communities.”
While taking the stakeholders on the Basics of Gender Base Violance (GBV), its impact and prevalence in the state, the FIDA Chairperson, Yobe chapter, Aisha Godowoli, said lack of support and opportunities for women was a major factor that contributed to the malaise.
Participants at the project included traditional and community leaders, religious leaders, youths and women groups, women cooperatives, government officials and security personnel.
At the end of the workshop, the stakeholders, who formed a CSAD observatory, drew up an activity workplan to guide their program and unanimously appointed the Emir of Bade, Alh. Abubakar Umar Suleiman to be the convener of the platform.
The platform will serve as an early warning and response platform for cases of GBV in Bade LGA.
